Getting employees started with the Xero Me App
Managing payroll processes can be tricky – especially for small business owners juggling everything themselves.
If you’re using Xero, you might not know about the Xero Me app. It’s a powerful tool that businesses, and their employees, can use to manage payslips, leave and timesheets. And it’s totally free for all Xero users!

Who can use the Xero Me app?
Xero Me is perfect for any business with employees/payroll, whether you’re a solo beautician or a medium-sized business.
The Xero Me app delivers payroll, leave and timesheet functions in an easy app that your employees can use on their own mobile phones.
What can Xero Me do?
Past payslips when you need them
With Xero Me, employees have easy access to payslips digitally or as PDFs.
Leave made easy
Employers can view, approve, deny, or schedule leave. Employees can submit leave requests in a few taps.
Timesheets in a snap
With Xero Me, employees can keep timesheets up to date, and employers or payroll staff can approve and manage timesheets.
Never worry again whether work details are up to date — it’s all there in your pocket with the Xero Me app.
Getting started with Xero Me
To install Xero Me, iPhone users must have iOS 13 or later, and Android users must have Android Lollipop (v.5) or later.
FOR EMPLOYERS
To give your employees access to Xero Me, someone with payroll admin access must invite the employee to My Payroll via a computer.
Payroll admin access is automatically assigned to the original Xero subscriber but can be assigned to others by:
- the original subscriber
- anyone with payroll administrator access
- anyone with “manage users” permission.
To add employees, log in to your Xero business file (this step can’t be done through the app), then:
Check employee details
- In the Payroll menu, select Employees.
- Click the employee’s name.
- In the Details tab, check the Email.
- Add or edit the address if necessary, then click Save.
Give employee access to My Payroll
- In the Payroll menu, select Employees.
- Select the checkbox next to the relevant employee.
- Click Invite to My Payroll.
FOR EMPLOYEES
After adding the employee, they should receive an email invite.
To access Xero, they can:
- From the invite email, click the link.
- Click Accept Invite.
- Enter details, then create and confirm your password.
- Read, understand and agree to Xero’s Terms of use and Privacy notice.
- Click Create.
Employees can then download and access Xero Me using their username/password.
